Leader in Homeland Security Imaging Products
BACKGROUND

Current generation multi-slice CT scanners are expensive and have been criticized for producing high radiation exposure to patients. Because of the cost and exposure, such scanners are usually only available in hospitals and hospital-affiliated imaging centers. The hope that CT could become widely available to physicians as a simple screening study at the time of an annual physical has not been realized.

The Solution

Currently TSS is collaborating with another company that is developing a low-cost multi-slice CT scanner for installation at airport checkpoints. In addition, TeleSecurity has been exploring methods and algorithms that demonstrate the potential to reduce radiation exposure by a factor of 10 or more for CT examinations. We propose to modify the low-cost Checkpoint CT scanner for medical imaging, and to had to that system a TSS developed dynamic collimation system and associated reconstruction algorithms in order to provide low-dose CT imaging. The result of this development would be a CT product that would have a price point suitable for use in physician offices, and a low radiation exposure profile that is normally considered safe for screening purposes.

Status

TSS has filed patent applications to protect its IP in this new product and is in the early design and planning stage at this time.
